WTF: A rant.

Do you all remember things like this? Zuzu was one of the few bloggers to really fight back against the tide of the Big Liberal Dude's insistance that counting Michigan and Florida in the Democratic primary was clearly Against The Rules. Some of the ugliest sexism was involved in this very debate. Just by asking for MI and FL to count, Clinton was called all manner of misogynist slurs and was accused of being so power hungry she would destroy the party.

This is an important point.

Clinton and her supporters and others who wanted to count MI and FL were the ones who were called divisive (at best). Zuzu was the target of ridiculous levels of hate simply for explaining the rules.

Obama benefitted from this argument which fueled the opposition to Clinton as a power-mad harpy and the labelling of Clinton supporters as irrational bitches. He was helped so much that he was given not only more delegates from Michigan than he had demonstrably earned, but also a couple of delegates that Clinton had demonstrably earned. This helped push him over the edge to the magic number.

Now Obama is calling for the MI and FL deligates votes to count in full, as opposed to the half vote the DNC granted them. And what is his reason? Fucking "party unity."

Please excuse me while I go throw up and then break some things.

Alrighty then.

Someone explain to me how giving MI and FL full voting rights now, when the voting will be purely symbolic, does shit for "party unity." The co-chairs of the credentials committee claims that "As always our goal is to ensure a fair process and a unified Democratic Party so that we can win in November." Fair? WTF? Unified? Is anyone but Obama even going to be on the ballot at the convention? How the hell does this matter now?

But mostly, I am angry at the blatant hypocricy. Not because Obama is doing something at a time when it will hurt him the least, as far as votes. That is what a politician does. But for arguing that party unity now demands this symbolic gesture that when Clinton wanted it done (and when it would have given those primary voters a real voice in the primary election) SHE was destroying party unity. Now Obama wants this to be a grand gesture by him to repair it by doing what Clinton and all those other party-destroyers wanted?

Fuck that.

ETA: I don't think I was completely clear on one of the points I really wanted to highlight. Obama is now saying that it's good for party unity to fully count MI and FL delegates' votes. So who was the one who was divisive and breaking up the party? The one who wanted them to count or the one pushing for them not to count at all?

We are caught in the crossfire between two consummate politicians.

Personally, I don't think it inaccurate to refer to Clinton as a "Power Hungry Bitch."

Nor do I think it necessarily a bad thing. My only question has always been - irt all candidates - what will you do with the power I give you?

With Clinton, I have never been sure that I would like the results.

Or, more to the point, like the results of her being president for four years as opposed to her becoming the next Strom Thurmond. (Surviving the coming crapfest AND getting re-elected is gonna be nearly impossible.)

You know what I'd like to see? I'd like her to run for a House Seat and take Nancy Pelosi to bitch school.

Alternately, I'd like her to take on Harry Reid for the Senate Majority Leadership - but for a true power hungry bitch wanting to get things done - Nancy's Job. And Nancy, you may note, ain't doin' it.

What's the point of doing it now, if Clinton's not going to be on the ballot at the convention? The voters are still disenfranchised because their expressed votes are being rendered irrelevant because Clinton's not up for the nom. It's an entirely symbolic action and one that still doesn't address the roots of the problem: disenfranchisement.

Then you're on the wrong blog. It isn't "accurate," it is misogynist.

Cut it out with "bitch" or I'll be deleting your comments.

Sarah, I had the same feeling. And PD, I don't get it either. He's obviously trying to make nice with MI and FL voters, but this is just insulting at this point.

UGHHHHH.
I'd say, "Oh, HELL no," but sadly, by this point, nothing about the levels to which he will stoop shocks me anymore.

It was clear a long time ago that "not benefitting the party" = "not benefitting Axelrod's vision for Obama." It's always been my firm belief that Axelrod is at least partially to blame for some of the most venomous shit that's come down the turnpike from the Obama camp. He is truly the fauxgressive answer to Turd Blossom.
